Volusia County Approves NSB Beach Access Ramp Improvements & Changes

Posted

Volusia County, FL - On Tuesday, the Volusia County Council approved two measures for designs of improvements to two New Smyrna beach access ramps. The beach access improvements are scheduled for the beach approaches at both 16th Ave. and 27th Ave. in New Smyrna Beach. The contracts for the engineering designs are both with Gulf Engineers & Associates. The 16th St. project is expected to cost no more than $147,510, and the 27th Ave project would cost no more than $114,576. The project for the 16th Ave. beach approach will allow for the construction of a new vehicle ramp from the east end of 16th Ave. to the beach, the paving of 16th Ave. from A1A to the proposed ramp, and a new bike rack near the ramp, according to County records. The vehicle access ramp to the beach at 27th Ave. has been significantly eroded and is not able to be used, according to County staff. The design project is expected to modify the ramp and permanently repair it so that is less impacted by the tides. Photo courtesy SandiMako and Shutterstock.com.
