Volusia County, FL-Update: Volusia County Council today has approved the airline incentives program for Daytona Beach International Airport.  The vote was 7-0.

Earlier reporting: The Volusia County Airport Services Division will present a strategic incentive plan before County Council during Thursday's meeting aimed at luring new carriers and/or new routes to Daytona Beach International Airport. Jay Cassens, Director of Business Development at DBIA, said that staff is recommending approval of a resolution authorizing the use of $300,000 in non-airport, county general fund/economic development fund incentives for qualifying airlines.

Cassens said the program consists of three incentive packages for new carriers and three incentive packages for incumbent carriers. The incentives are more aggressive compared to most and are meant to encourage incumbent carriers to consider expansion and new market development.

The idea with the presentation is to have the incentive packages ready to go so when a situation comes up, the established published information will be readily available.

Cassens said that packages also include other incentives like fee waivers and marketing money. He thinks that airlines will respond well to the incentive packages being offered and local residents could have more destination choices.

According to the proposal, the program will be active from October 1, 2016,  to September 30, 2019. The Program will operate under a County Council approved budget of available County of Volusia Economic Development Division funds in the amount of $300,000.
