Flagler County, FL - Flagler County's Veterans Day ceremony kicks off at 10 AM on Friday and the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall will be on hand.

The event is being held at the Flagler Executive Airport and will be the opening event of Freedom Fest 2016, which runs through November 13. The event was moved to the airport because the county was able to bring the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall for all 3 days of the festival. “The Vietnam Traveling Wall represents the perfect backdrop for this important event,” said Sal Rutigliano, Flagler County Veterans Services Officer. “It stands as a reminder of the great sacrifices that were made during the Vietnam War.”

Brigadier General Richard Butterfield, retired US Army, will be the keynote speaker and the County's Veteran of the Year will be announced, along with the winner of the Flagler Schools Veterans Day Essay Contest. Flagler Palm Coast High School's "Formality Singers" and marching band will perform. US Representative Ron DeSantis will be there to present the Silver Star to Lieutenant Ray Parker, US Army, as part of the opening ceremony. DeSantis will also be presenting Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pins to those who served during the war. The lapel pins were made to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the war.

Music starts at noon on Friday. Military aircraft, a vendor village, and fireworks at 9 PM will all be part of the celebration on Saturday.

Admission is free to the event, located at 201 Airport Rd.

“This year’s ceremony has grown and will be quite special,” said Rutigliano.
