VCSO: Woman Hit Pregnant Mother While Trying To Take Kids

Wilbur-by-the-sea, FL - A Port Orange woman who's spent quite a bit of time at Volusia County Jail ends up there again, this time for allegedly trying to abduct two kids and striking a pregnant woman.

Multiple 911 calls came in around 1:30 yesterday afternoon, sending deputies to the beach parking lot on the corner of State Road A1A and Toronita Avenue in Wilbur-by-the-sea.

It was minutes after that when 34-year-old Sarah Freeman was tracked down and arrested, according to Volusia County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Andrew Gant.

"Two parents reported they had to pull their kids away from [Freeman]," Gant noted. "The witnesses were able to describe Freeman in detail to VCSO dispatchers."

On one of the 911 calls, a man told the dispatcher Freeman was acting strange just before it all happened.

"I thought she was funny, right at first, and I wasn’t thinking much of it," the man added. "And then it just went weird, out of nowhere."

According to deputies, the first parent Freeman approached - a woman who's six months pregnant - fought back when Freeman grabbed the towel wrapped around her 7-year-old daughter, managing to pull her child to safety.

After that, another parent reported Freeman hitting his backside with a stick before she grabbed the arm of his 5-year-old son and tried to drag him away. That man managed to grab his child back and lock him in a vehicle, at which point Freeman allegedly tried to force her way in through the passenger window.

At least one other parent told VCSO she put her child in the vehicle and locked the doors when Freeman told her that she would take her kid, per Gant.

"Once in custody, [Freeman] mumbled and made unintelligible statements to a deputy, who noticed she appeared to be under the influence of some unknown substance," Gant added.

Freeman's held without bond on five total charges, including attempted kidnapping, aggravated battery on a pregnant woman, burglary and battery.

VCJ records show Freeman has been booked there at least 11 other times since May 2002, including in May of this year on a contempt of court charge. She's also been booked in the past for petit theft, grand theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, obstructing an officer and assault.
