VCSO: Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Arrest

DeLand, FL - A traffic stop of an unregistered car leads to Volusia County Sheriff's Office finding drugs.

Just after 1:30 Saturday afternoon (September 8th), a VCSO deputy watched as a gray 2004 Ford Mustang ran a stop sign near the 500 block of East Euclid Avenue near Spec Martin Stadium.

When the deputy stopped the vehicle, he met with the driver, 28-year-old Antoine Adams. As he spoke to Adams, he began to notice the smell of burnt cannabis.

The deputy then began to order Adams to exit the vehicle, which he refused to do. After a few more times, Adam had finally exited the vehicle.

After a quick search, the deputy found small pieces of cannabis on the floorboards of the vehicle, and a digital scale with a white powder that tested positive for cocaine.

VCSO dispatch then advised the deputy that the tag on Adam's vehicle was not for a 2004 Mustang, but a 1999 Buick. They then searched the VIN of the Mustang and found it was an unregistered vehicle.

Adams was then arrested for possession of cocaine, cannabis, drug paraphernalia, and operating an unregistered vehicle.

He is also a listed violent felony offender and was on felony probation for possession of cocaine.

As of this morning (September 11th), he remains in Volusia County Jail.
