Daytona Beach, FL -  Volusia Sheriff’s detectives are investigating an accidental shooting in Daytona Beach that resulted in a 12-year-old boy being injured.

At around 3:30 PM on Saturday, a 12-year-old boy was accidentally shot in his mouth inside a home on Leon Lane. When deputies arrived at the scene, the boy was standing outside. According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO), the boy sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Sheriff’s detectives believe the boy was accidentally shot by his 12-year-old friend. The friend’s 33-year-old mom, Amy E. Callahan, is the owner of the gun. She lives at the home in which the shooting occurred but was not home during the incident.

The victim was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center and then airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando for treatment. The VCSO is currently investigating the shooting.  At this time, it is unknown if charges will be filed with the State Attorney’s Office.
