Pickup Hits & Kills Pedestrian In Deltona; Traffic Homicide Investigation Underway

Deltona, FL - The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal accident involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian that happened early Thursday morning at the intersection of Howland Blvd. and Elkcam Blvd. in Deltona.

Investigators say the driver of a white Dodge pickup was heading north on Howland Blvd. at around 5:30 AM when a man stepped out in front of the truck in an area that does not have have a crosswalk. The pedestrian came out of an alley north of Howland and Elkcam.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say his name will not be released until next-of-kin have been notified.

VCSO says the driver stopped and reported the accident. Howland Blvd. was shut down for a time due to the accident, but it has since reopened.

VCSO is conducting a standard traffic homicide investigation. Officials say more information will be released when it becomes available.
