DeLand, FL - Investigators are on the case after a man was allegedly shot by his father in a home just west of DeLand.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office says it happened around 11:15 AM Tuesday on the 1800 block of Holly Boulevard. That's near the Parkway Street intersection.
VCSO spokesman Gary Davidson says deputies have charged the victim’s 58-year-old father with aggravated battery and found a handgun they think was used in the shooting.
"When deputies arrived, a 34-year-old man was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the chest," Davidson added. "The victim has been airlifted by a Sheriff’s Office helicopter to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach for treatment of his wound."
The father is identified as Grady Edmondson and the son is identified as Grady Edmondson, Jr.
Deputies think the shooting happened during an argument between the father and son over the victim’s mother, per Davidson.
"During questioning, the elder Edmondson confessed to shooting his son from a distance of about 5 feet with a 9-millimeter semi-automatic handgun after the two chest bumped during the argument," Davidson added. "The victim wasn’t armed."
The son is currently in critical condition following surgery at HHMC, according to VCSO spokesman Andrew Gant.
The father is held without bond at Volusia County Jail as of 6 PM Tuesday.
