Deltona, FL - A man who was pulled over for a traffic stop because of a burned out headlight could have walked away with a written warning, but instead he got a dog bite and a trip to jail on charges of DUI, escape and resisting.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office (VCSO), Danial Brown, 39, Deltona, was pulled over at approximately 10:20 PM Tuesday night, March 21, by a Volusia County Sheriff's deputy in the vicinity of Providence Boulevard and Tivoli Drive, Deltona.

The VCSO reports that the deputy was planning to give Brown a warning and send him on his way, but then Brown got out of his car and deputies noticed he was unsteady on his feet, had glassy eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. Deputies administered field sobriety test exercises.

After Brown could't maintain his balance, deputies brought him to the Sheriff's Office's Deltona headquarters on Providence Blvd for processing. At that point, Brown slipped out of his handcuffs that were securing him to a bench, exited the holding cell and ran out the back door.

Deputies quickly secured the perimeter and began searching for the escaped prisoner. About an hour later, around 2:08 AM, a Sheriff's K-9 found Brown hiding in some thick brush along Providence Blvd. and secured him with a bite to the shoulder.

Brown was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries then transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach, where he was being held without bond.
