VCSO: Bomb Threat Made At Daytona International Airport; Naked Man Arrested

Posted
Daytona Beach, FL - Daytona Beach International Airport was evacuated on Friday morning, and the Volusia County Sheriff's Office says a naked man was taken into custody following a bomb threat. Law enforcement responded at around 6 AM on Friday to Daytona International after reports of a naked man running around the terminal. Officials apprehended the suspect, 25-year-old John Greenwood, and had to use a taser in the process. Greenwood reportedly told deputies that he had planted a bomb in one of the bathrooms. The airport was evacuated and searched. The bathrooms were checked for any suspicious devices, but there were no bombs found, according to VCSO. Officials did find a backpack with Greenwood's clothes hidden inside the drywall of one of the bathrooms.

"This is one of those things where truth is stranger than fiction," said Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood. Chitwood added that Greenwood is well-known to law enforcement and has been Baker Acted twice.  Greenwood told deputies he had ingested drugs Thursday night.  He was taken to the hospital and will be charged by VCSO. Some flights were delayed at Daytona International, but the airport was cleared, and operations resumed later Friday morning. "The airlines proactively reschedule the passengers when they know an incident like this happens," said Jay Cassens, the airport's Director of Business Development.
