DeLand, FL – The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO) is investigating a robbery that took place Monday morning near DeLand.

According to the VCSO, an employee at Mikell’s Landscaping Products on West New York Avenue, west of DeLand, said that 2 men in a pickup truck attempted to rob the business at 9:35 AM. One remained inside the truck while the other entered the business armed with a gun. The suspect demanded money with the firearm pointed at the employee, who complied and turned over an undisclosed amount of money from the cash box.

The suspect was wearing a black pants and a black hoodie and a mask to conceal his face. After getting the money, the suspect bolted from the business and jumped into the truck, which fled westbound on New York Avenue towards Lake County. No shots were fired and no one was injured, deputies said.

The truck is a 2-door Ford, light brown or tan with a grille bumper, believed to be a 1980s or 1990s model. Patrol deputies, with assistance from a Sheriff’s Office helicopter, were not able to locate the vehicle.
