Volusia County, FL-VCSO has established a fund for donations for a memorial for the K-9 killed in the line of duty earlier this month. K-9 Forest was shot to death in a confrontation with a suspect identified as 34-year-old Eddie Powell who is charged with a list of counts, including use of a deadly weapon against a police dog and attempted 2nd-degree murder with a firearm. VCSO spokesman Andrew Gant says the Sheriff's Office has been overwhelmed with messages of support from the public and people asking what they can do. You can contribute to the memorial fund for Forest at any TD Bank branch in Volusia County, Seminole County, Orlando or Jacksonville. Gant says a memorial for Forest is being planned and details will be released soon. You can also send a check via the VCSO Charity Committee Inc. at the VCSO Civil Section, 250 N. Beach Street, #117, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. The donations will support the K-9 program and the upcoming memorial for Forest. The VCSO release says, "Until then, again, please know the kindness you've shown your VCSO deputies, staff and K-9s over the past several days has meant the world to all of us who are so proud and thankful to work here."
