DeBary, FL - The Volusia County Sheriff's Office (VCSO) says a 90-year-old DeBary woman was robbed Friday night by a man, posing as a power company worker, and his accomplice. The man came to the woman's home on Gardenia Ave. and banged on her door at around 5:45 PM on Friday, according to VCSO. The woman came to the door, but she did not open it. The man said that he was with the power company and that the woman's power was scheduled to be shut off. "He was insistent and really used scare tactics and pressure to finally get her to let him into her screened porch," says Andrew Gant, Public Information Officer for VCSO. The man allegedly distracted the woman while another suspect entered the home. Later on, when another family member came home, several bedroom drawers were found rifled through, and it was discovered that cash was stolen from the home. VCSO says the accomplice stole the cash from a bedroom drawer while the woman was distracted. Gant reminds everyone not to give in to those trying to "bully or intimidate" you into giving them money or information or trying to get you to let them into your house. "Don't be intimidated. Shut them down, call us, or call the company they purport to work for," Gant adds. If you have any information that could help deputies investigating this case, please call VCSO at 386-248-1777.
