DeLand, FL-Volusia County Council approved a measure to send a letter to the SunRail Board  concerning their reservations about overnight parking.

County Manager James Dinneen said that the essence of SunRail is commuters and that should not get lost in the discussion of maintenance, the name of the station and parking lot expansion.

Dinneen suggested to Council that it should be made clear to FDOT and the city of DeBary that overnight parking should not be part of the package.

Several Council members brought up the fact that some people might work overnight and so their vehicles would be in the parking lot. County Attorney Dan Eckert said that an exception could be noted for those with overnight employment.

Councilman Pat Patterson, who is also on the SunRail Board, suggested a sticker for those that need to park overnight. A motion was made for Patterson to author a letter to the SunRail Board to make VCC's position on overnight parking clear. That motion was approved.

The station is currently the northern terminus of SunRail until Phase 2 North is completed in the future.
