Volusia County, FL-The Volusia County Council considered a resolution to urge the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to reinstate the prohibition on hunting Florida black bear during their Thursday meeting. The resolution passed unanimously by a vote of 6-0.

Several local residents who are involved in non-profit conservation efforts in the area spoke passionately and emotionally about the hunt that took place in October of 2015. The proposed week long limit was 320. More than 3,000 permits were sold and 298 bears were killed in the first two days. The state of Florida ended the hunt.

The discussion was not limited to conservationists. District 2 Representative Joshua Wagner, who is admittedly a hunter, supported the resolution, saying that "some things shouldn't be hunted."
