Daytona Beach, FL – A Volusia County Council member has abandoned her run for higher office.

Volusia County Council’s Deb Denys says she is staying on the council, but she’s withdrawing her candidacy for the Florida House of Representatives in District 25 due to “pressing family matters” that require her to stay close to home.

In her press release, Denys stated “Recent unforeseen developments which affect my immediate family require me to stay close to Volusia County. The office of Representative involves a rigid travel schedule and extended time away from home, preventing me from honoring my family commitments. Therefore, I am withdrawing my name as a candidate for District 25.”

She went on to endorse Tom Leek’s candidacy for District 25.

Denys made it clear that she will keep her current position as the District 3 County Council member, and she will “run a campaign for re-election to the Volusia County Council in 2018.”
