VC Bomb Squad Removes Grenade Dropped Off At Holly Hill Fire Station

Holly Hill, FL - The Volusia County Bomb Squad was called to remove a hand grenade at the Holly Hill Fire Department on Monday.

According to the Holly Hill Police Department (HHPD), on Monday, April 24, a call for assistance was received from the Holly Hill Fire Department, 1020 Daytona Avenue. A woman had dropped off a hand grenade she found while cleaning out her grandfather's house after his recent passing. The old, rust-covered grenade was among her grandfather's war memorabilia.

When the firefighters discovered the grenade in the items they removed it from the fire station and called the HHPD for assistance. A call was immediately made to the Volusia County Bomb Squad.

The HHPD blocked roadways around the fire station and evacuated the building until the hand grenade was safely removed by the bomb squad at approximately 1:15 PM.

The hand grenade was believed to be a relic from World War II.
