Daytona Beach, FL-Ebony Wilkerson was taken out of a courtroom today and committed to DCF to a state hospital. Wilkerson drove a van into the ocean with three children inside in it in 2014. She was found not guilty by reason of insanity when tried on child abuse charges for the crime.
In committing her today, Judge Leah Case said that Wilkerson is “manifestly dangerous to herself and others.” The Judge also said that Wilkerson had been deceitful about taking her medication and does not believe she has a mental illness.
Wilkerson was at the point of being allowed to see her children when she stopped taking her medication and had her conditional release revoked. Her husband, Lufton Ronjon, took the stand today, telling the judge that being away from her children has not helped Wilkerson stay well.
