Daytona Beach, FL - The US-92 Pedestrian Improvement Project has won an award recognizing it as one of the top regional projects in the nation.

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials recently gave the award to the FL Department of Transportation (FDOT) at the Southern Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (SASHTO) conference in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

"Well it's a big deal," said Steve Olson, FDOT Public Information Officer, speaking of the award. "This bridge is an iconic project on the main entrance to Daytona Beach."

The US-92 Pedestrian Improvement Project includes the pedestrian bridge on ISB near DIS. The $17 million project also includes wide sidewalks, and other safety and aesthetic features.

“This project emphasizes complete streets, which focuses on many modes of transportation along a corridor, including pedestrian traffic,” said Frank O’Dea, FDOT District Five Director of Transportation Development. “We believe this improves safety, boosts the quality of life and promotes economic development.”

“All the stakeholders, agencies and residents, deserve this recognition," said Brad Bauknecht, FDOT project engineer. “It was a great team and the US-92 Pedestrian Improvement Project is a testament to that.”
