One Daytona Overview

Volusia County, FL-Update: Developers of the One Daytona project went before Volusia County Council today and dazzled with an update on the project going up across from Daytona International Speedway. ISC's Jeff Boerger said the project was on schedule for an on-time opening and said people will be watching movies in a completed Cobb Theater on the property by the end of the year. Boerger told council that right now the project is attracting tenants and said six to eight additional tenants will be announced next month. Developers had asked for a payment of $12 million of a $20 million dollar commitment from the county. County Manager Jim Dinneen and staff took the wraps off a plan for short-term borrowing that Dinneen said would not interfere with his plan to have the county debt-free in the general fund by 2018. Dinneen also said Bass Pro Shops plans to have a focus on the local environment and that would involve the Marine Science Center in Ponce Inlet. County Council voted 6-0 to make that payment. Councilmember Fred Lowry was absent. The remaining $8 million county commitment will be due when the One Daytona parking garage is underway. Earlier reporting follows: Vice President of Corporate Development for International Speedway Corporation Jeff Boerger will lead a presentation on the progress at One Daytona during the Volusia County Council meeting Thursday. Spokesperson Gentry Baumline-Robinson said that construction is on schedule. Construction work on One Daytona began in November 2015 and planning began long before that but parts of the project will open soon. Baumline-Robinson said that Cobb Theater will be the first to open by the end of this year. Bass Pro Shops should open by the beginning of 2017. ISC's plan is for the entire project to be up and running by the end of 2017. (Photo courtesy of onedaytona.com) Copyright Southern Stone Communication s2016.
