Orange City, FL - University High School in Orange City is gearing up to host the 12th Annual EMS/Military Expo, which will give students the opportunity to meet first responders and military experts. The expo will take place starting at 8 AM January 26 at University High School, located at 1000 West Rhode Island Ave., and will host nearly 50 federal, state, and local agencies. Approximately 3,400 students are expected to attend, according to a news release from Volusia County Schools. Those students will include University High juniors and seniors, along with students from other area high schools (DeLand, Deltona, Mainland, New Smyrna Beach, Pine Ridge, and Spruce Creek). “University High is the only high school in the nation to host an event that provides students with a unique opportunity to meet members of the federal, state, and local programs from around the state and learn about possible future careers,” Perry Revlett, University High teacher and program director for the Volusia County EMS/Military expo says. Students will get a chance to test the U.S. Navy’s mobile, state-of-the-art virtual reality experience by going through a series of virtual exercises. The virtual exercises will allow students to experience NAVY missions, including a high-speed water extraction of a Navy SEAL team pinned down under enemy fire. The students will be graded on their performance and will also get to speak with current U.S. Navy Sailors, participate in physical training (PT) challenges, interact with other technologies, and take photos. The expo is also scheduled to include Florida Hospital Flight One Helicopter, Flagler County Fire Flight Helicopter, Orlando Air Care, U.S Coast Guard HH-60 (Clearwater), U.S. Coast Guard Dolphin MH-65 (Jacksonville), U.S. Navy HSM-70 (Mayport), Volusia County Sheriff's Department's Air One, Vietnam Pilots Association Cobra Gunship, ShandsCare and Seminole County Sheriff helicopter.
