Palm Coast, FL - Two women, one of them blind, along with her service dog are safe after being rescued by Flagler County Sheriff's deputies on a rainy Friday afternoon. The driver, Lisa Burns, contacted FCSO just after 4:30 p.m., telling dispatch that she had accidentally driven her SUV into the water at Waterfront Park.  Burns also stated her blind mother was with her, the vehicle was beginning to fill with water and they could not get the doors open. Two officers responded to the scene and were able to get the driver-side door open, assisting the daughter, mother and her service dog to safety. Burns told officers she was attempting to turn onto Colbert Lane but misjudged the turn, driving straight into the water. Flagler Sheriff Rick Staley said of his deputies, "I am extremely proud of them for their quick response to the scene and how they went into the water without hesitation." Staley also said driving in the rain can be very dangerous. "If at any time you are driving and you feel like conditions are too hazardous we encourage drivers to pull over at a safe location and wait for the weather to pass." The two women and the service dog were medically cleared at the scene, with no injuries reported. You can see body cam footage of the rescue using this link.
