VCSO Deputy & Detective Arrested In DUI Incidents

Ormond Beach, FL - Two members of the Volusia County Sheriff's Office are placed in handcuffs for separate driving under the influence incidents over the past weekend.

Deputy Jonathan Johansmeyer resigned the day after his DUI arrest on Saturday (January 12th) in Ormond Beach, while Detective Brandon Cobb will be placed on leave after his DUI arrest on Sunday (January 13th) in Georgia.

According to VCSO spokesperson Andrew Gant, the 23-year-old Johansmeyer drove "at a high rate of speed" past an OBPD officer at the Bermuda Estates apartment complex on St. Georges Road around 4:15 p.m. Saturday.

"Johansmeyer failed to stop for the officer and sped through an adjacent parking lot and onto Granada Boulevard as the officer followed with lights and sirens active," Gant added. "Johansmeyer failed to successfully complete several field sobriety exercises."

Johansmeyer was initially hired by VCSO in April 2018 and was assigned to District Two in the northwest part of the county before his resignation.

Besides the DUI charge, Johansmeyer is also charged with fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement.

27-year-old Detective Brandon Cobb - an eight-year VCSO veteran who also worked out of District Two - was arrested during a traffic stop in the Georgia town of Garden City, a Savannah suburb.

VCSO has not released any details about that case, but Gant says Cobb will be reassigned to an administrative position once his leave is up.

Due to an existing Florida law, mugshots for both officers are not available for public release.
