DeLand, FL - Police are asking for the public's help in locating two suspects wanted for attempted first-degree murder.

On January 24th, 25-year-old Dexter Chambers was shot after he said he confronted four men on the driveway of his home in the Candlelight Oaks subdivision.

Through investigation, DeLand police believe they have identified two of the suspects involved.

They have since secured the warrants for the arrest of two 18-year-old males, Day-Mont Ward and Stephen Bruten.

Chief Jason Umberger with DPD says they were able to identify the pair thanks to neighbors in the area who stepped forward.

"I was heartened to hear that neighbors came out and offer what information they could," said Chief Umberger. "Several neighbors had outside surveillance cameras that offered us the ability to take a look at those."

Chief Umberger says that they believe Chambers knew the four males and they seem to have had prior contact before.

A motive hasn't been completely nailed down yet, however, Chief Umberger says that so far the police believe that it was some kind of robbery that went awry.

"If we're going to have a safe community, we all have to work together," said Chief Umberger. "That means people need to come forward and stand shoulder to shoulder with their police department."

Police have yet to identify the other two suspects in this case. More charges could also be filed.

Anyone with more information on the case or information on the whereabouts of Ward or Bruten is asked to get in contact with Detective Anthony Bota with DeLand Police Department by calling 386-626-7422 or by emailing him at botaa@deland.org
