Deltona, FL- Two people are accused of child neglect after they were found with two children, ages three and six, driving around in a car while using drugs. That happened Saturday.

Volusia County deputies said that 28-year-old Maripily Velasquez was in the driver’s seat at the Burger King drive-thru on Elkcam Boulevard. Employees called in saying the vehicle hadn’t moved for about 20 minutes. Deputies found Velazquez incoherent. She failed a field sobriety test and is charged with DUI, child neglect and possession of methadone.

Deputies found drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine in the passenger side door, where 34-year-old Eddy Perez had been sitting. He was arrested and also charged with child neglect.

The children were released to a relative after DCF was notified.
