UPDATE (12-09-18): 19-year-old Damon Kemp has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder in this incident. Detectives say Kemp - who will turn 20 on Thursday (December 13th) - has been at Volusia County Jail since Friday (December 7th) for an armed burglary at that apartment complex and it was during that investigation when the bodies of the murder victims were discovered. The apartment was Ingraham's, according to DBPD, and Paden had been visiting. Kemp would also stay at Ingraham's apartment from time to time, per Chief Capri. Kemp's first appearance in court is set for this morning. Earlier reporting below. Daytona Beach, FL - The head of the Daytona Beach Police Department expects to have a double murder case solved within a couple of days. That's what Chief Craig Capri told reporters during a press conference this morning (December 8th) about the deaths of 19-year-olds Trey Ingraham and Jordan Paden.
DBPD discovered the murder scene at the Jade Park Apartments on the corner of Jimmy Ann Drive and Dunn Avenue around 8 o'clock last night, but Capri says it looks like both men may have been shot and killed the night before (December 7th) based on testimony from witnesses in the area. A person of interest has been identified by DBPD, and while that person is not in custody at this time, Capri does not believe that person poses a threat to the community.
DBPD has not released the name of that person of interest, citing an active investigation, but Capri says they know where to find this person if necessary. Investigators are working with the office of Florida 7th Circuit State Attorney RJ Larizza to file charges. No details as to motive were released by DBPD, but Capri has confirmed that at least one of the victims lived at the apartment complex and both victims were acquainted with the person of interest. This case may also be related with another case that DBPD was working at the apartment complex when the bodies were discovered, but that part hasn't been totally determined yet since DBPD hasn't had a lot of cooperation from people in the area, according to the chief. Officials with Bethune-Cookman University have confirmed that Ingraham is a former student. He was very involved with a local boxing gym and was planning to go back to school at some point, per Capri. BCU Interim President Hubert Grimes also says that counseling will be provided to any impacted students.
