Daytona Beach, FL - Two motorcyclists are dead and five others end up in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries in three separate accidents during Bike Week 2019.
The Daytona Beach Police Department says the first happened around 8 p.m. Wednesday (March 13th) on Main Street near Coates Street.
According to the report, a white 1998 Ford minivan was going east on Coates when it struck three motorcycles which were stopped for traffic, pushing them into the back of a vehicle in front of them which had also stopped for traffic. The van then veered into two other vehicles parked on the south side of Main Street.
DBPD says the driver of the van - 72-year-old Jimmy Davis of Good Hope, GA - told them he accidentally stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake, per the report. He was cited for careless driving.
Most of the people involved were ejected from the vehicles. All went to either Halifax Health Medical Center or AdventHealth Daytona Beach for treatment.
Around 48 hours after that incident, a man riding a 2017 Harley ended up in the hospital after smashing into the driver's side of a 2007 Volkswagon Jetta near Monarch Academy.
The motorcyclist involved in that crash - Eric Dunn - passed away from his injuries on Monday (March 18th) at HHMC, per DBPD.
According to that report, Dunn was heading north on North Williamson Boulevard around 7 p.m. Friday (March 15th) when the Jetta pulled in front of him at the Bayless Boulevard intersection.
No charges have been filed in that case, but DBPD is still investigating.
The Florida Highway Patrol also reports that a 46-year-old Winter Haven man died in Palm Coast on Saturday night (March 16th) while riding his motorcycle off Colbert Lane near Roberts Road.
According to the report, Jason Richards was heading south on Colbert Lane in his 2009 Buell when he veered to the right, went off the road and was ejected from his motorcycle around 6:30 p.m. He passed away around an hour later at AdventHealth Palm Coast.
No other vehicles are believed to be involved in that incident, per FHP.
