Chemical Truck Catches Fire In Daytona Shores; Hazmat Team Called To Scene

Daytona Beach Shores, FL - Update: The Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety has announced that South Atlantic Ave. in Daytona Beach Shores is re-opened after a portion of the road was shut down on Wednesday after a box truck containing several chemicals caught fire at Perry's Ocean Edge Resort. The area of South Atlantic Ave. that was shut down due to the truck fire was re-opened just after 9 PM on Wednesday. Earlier Reporting:  A section of South Atlantic Ave. in Daytona Beach Shores was shut down on Wednesday after a box truck containing several chemicals caught fire at Perry's Ocean Edge Resort. When firefighters were called to the scene at around 2:46 PM on Wednesday, the truck was fully engulfed in flames. By 3:17 PM, the fire was extinguished, according to the City of Daytona Beach Shores. While no injuries have been reported, the Volusia County Hazmat Team and the Environmental Protection Agency were called to the scene, and the area was deemed a health and safety hazard. According to a release put out by the City of Daytona Beach Shores on Wednesday night, even though the scene is now secure, the area of South Atlantic Ave. between Moore Ave. and Bridgeport Rd. will remain closed until further notice.
