Ormond Beach, FL – A tree removal crew member died Monday night when a large log rolled onto him as workers cleaned up debris left behind by Hurricane Matthew.

VCSO spokesman Gary Davidson says it happened at Halifax Plantation near Ormond Beach around 6PM. The man was reportedly cutting tree debris on the ground when he was pinned.

A passerby spotted the pinned man on Tano Drive and yelled for help.

Co-workers helped get the large log off the man and CPR was started. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was later identified as47-year-old Steven Barna from Garrettsville, Ohio. He was working for the Falls Tree Company out of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, which had sent crews to FL to help with tree clean-up in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.
