Daytona Beach, FL-A tourist from Arkansas was out for a night of fun but ended up having her wallet stolen and then everything taken from her hotel room while she was in bed asleep. Police say the 29-year-old woman was out in Daytona Beach August 2 and had been drinking heavily when she left the Ocean Deck. She stopped, as she walked back to her hotel, to smoke a cigarette and talked with two people she didn't know. She had put her wallet down and then turned around to find it gone. She had staff at the Hilton, where she was staying, let her into her room. Her room key was inside the stolen wallet. She went to bed and woke up to find her luggage and most of her personal belongings gone from the room. That's when she called police. She also called to cancel her credit cards. Missing items included her laptop, clothing and cash. The police report says a check of charges on her credit card turned up at least three, including one where a woman tried to buy gift cards at a 7-Eleven. The clerk asked for identification from the woman and she was not able to produce any. The clerk refused to complete the sale. Police looked at security video from that store. Also, hotel staff showed police a record of who entered the victim's hotel room with her electronic key card. It showed hotel staff opening the room for her just after midnight. Then, the stolen key was used at 2:20 AM to enter her room. Hotel security video showed the suspects entering the room, then leaving with the victim's luggage, and exiting onto the boardwalk. The police report says the victim was "too drunk" to remember much of what happened from the night before when they spoke with her the following day.
