Ormond Beach, FL - A 3-year-old boy is airlifted to the hospital in critical condition after police say he fell out of a moving vehicle near Ormond Beach City Hall.

The accident happened around 2:15 PM Tuesday on West Granada Boulevard near Lewis Street, according to the Ormond Beach Police Department.

OBPD Captain James Crimins says 29-year-old Ashley Dawn Wilson - the driver of a 1993 Chevrolet Blazer - left her 3-year-old child in the car unattended as she went inside the Nature’s Garden store at 58 West Granada.

"The Chevy Blazer somehow shifted into reverse backing out of the parking lot and onto West Granada Boulevard," Crimins added. "While the vehicle was in motion, the child somehow fell from the car and was injured."

The child was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center for treatment.

Heavy traffic delays were reported in the area for a few hours following the accident.

No other vehicles were involved, per OBPD.

OBPD has filed charges against Wilson in this incident, saying that she was liable for causing a preventable accident. Whether or not she's prosecuted will be up to the office of 7th Circuit State Attorney RJ Larizza.
