Volusia County, FL - Those who need federal disaster assistance have 30 days left to register.

Anyone who suffered under-insured or uninsured damage during Hurricane Matthew has until Friday, December 16, to apply for assistance from FEMA. FEMA can't provide assistance already covered by insurance, but you might still be eligible for damage and losses that weren't covered by your insurance. Grants from FEMA don't have to be repaid, they're nontaxable, and they don't impact Social Security eligibility, Medicaid, or other federal benefits.

You can register online at DisasterAssistance.gov, or you can call 1-800-621-3362. Those who are deaf, hard of hearing, or who have trouble speaking can call TTY 800-462-7585. Helpline hours run from 7 AM to 10 PM, every day of the week (until further notice).

"If anyone has received a denial, or has any questions, or even wants to register, you can do so online, you can go to a library and register, or you can even go to the Disaster Recovery Center," said Jim Judge, Volusia County Emergency Manager. "And also at that location we do have the Business Recovery Center."

The Disaster Recovery Center is at the Volusia Florida Department of Health, 1845 Holsonback Dr in Daytona Beach.

Judge also wanted to remind residents that the deadline to register for the Disaster Unemployment Assistance program is November 18. You can get info on that program at the Disaster Recovery Center at the County's Department of Health.
