Update: Volusia County Emergency Management officials are monitoring the tropical weather system making its way through the Gulf of Mexico now and forecast to make landfall later this week in the Big Bend area north of Tampa. It could be upgraded to a Tropical Storm today. If that happens, it would be "Hermine".
County Emergency Management director Jim Judge telling "Volusia Today" on WNDB that now is the time to make preparations for what could be tropical storm conditions here-likely heavy rain and gusty winds. Judge recommends putting gas in your car, checking your disaster kit for batteries, flashlights and food and having some cash on hand. Judge says his team is getting updates from the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service on the current track and forecast for the system.
Earlier reporting: The National Hurricane Center says TD #9 has formed a bit north of Cuba near the Florida Keys and the forecast track now takes it into the Big Bend area of Florida by Thursday.
The system is expected to strengthen. The "cone of uncertainty" in the forecast now means Central FL could be impacted.
South Florida expecting heavy rain and gusty winds as the system moves north.
