Ormond Beach, FL-Police activity shut downtown Ormond Beach early today and SWAT was called to the area of North Yonge Street and SR 40 where an armed robbery suspect was barricaded in a vehicle. The standoff began around 4:30 AM after an earlier robbery at gunpoint in Daytona Beach. Four suspects in the fleeing vehicle surrendered. One refused to exit the vehicle.

Ormond Beach Police PIO Officer Keith Walker says, minutes after the armed robbery call in Daytona Beach, police in Ormond Beach spotted the suspect vehicle on NB A1A and stopped it in the 100 block of West Granada. That's where one suspect remained armed inside the vehicle. Walker says the suspect wasn't pointing the weapon at anyone, but he did have a weapon. The suspect gave up and surrendered around 8:20 AM. All suspects were turned over to the Daytona Beach Police Department.

Walker says Daytona Beach PD SWAT and VCSO also helped with the situation which caused traffic tie-ups in what Walker called "the busiest part of the city".

Police blocked access along Granada Boulevard to the neighborhood behind the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce for about four hours. East and west bound traffic on Granada was diverted around the area.
