Deltona, FL- A sharp-eyed VCSO deputy spotted the vehicle of the suspect in a robbery at the Deltona Insight Credit Union on August 5. Deputies arrested 52-year-old Thomas Barnett at a home in Deltona earlier today.
The deputy spotted a car that looked like the green Ford Escort station wagon described by a witness after last week's robbery. Investigators noticed the hub caps and two distinctive white bumper stickers that were similar to what was on the car caught on camera. Plain clothes deputies were conducting surveillance when Barnett pulled up in another vehicle pulling a trailer. The deputies ran the trailer tag. It came back with Barnett's photo and they knew they had a match for the robbery.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop this morning on Barnett's vehicle because two tags were attached, one on the top of the other. Barnett was wearing a black watch and shoes similar to those worn by the robber. He was taken to the Sheriff’s Office Deltona headquarters for an interview and then escorted to the Volusia County Branch Jail on a charge of robbery with a firearm.
