Melbourne, FL-Hot and dry here? You bet. The National Weather Service in Melbourne says, when it comes to rainfall here as of June 1st, this is the driest summer in Daytona Beach since 1989. 4.74 inches of rain has fallen here since June 1st compared to 6 inches of rain in 1989 over the same summer period. NWS Meteorologist Wil Ulrich says since July 1st, Daytona Beach has only gotten 1.17 inches of rain here and typically the area would have gotten 7 to 8 inches of rain. Ulrich says May through September here is typically the wet season. Ulrich says there is still a chance to pick up some much-needed rain, as August and September are generally some of our wettest months, but right now there's nothing brewing in the near term forecast. With the dry weather also comes record-setting hot weather. Ulrich says as of Wednesday this week the area had posted 44 days in a row of 90 degree plus daytime high temperatures and that's a new record. That broke a record of 41 days set in 1977.   2016 Southern Stone Communications Copyright
