Stetson University Is Holding A Free Hackathon This Weekend

Posted

DeLand, FL – Stetson University is hosting over 200 students from all over the country for the school’s 2nd annual HackStetson hackathon.

The event this weekend, April 1 and April 2, is a “sudo” hackathon, meaning Stetson uses a computer program that only lets the ‘hackers’ access certain things and commands. The students will be creating virtual reality experiences and apps as well as being able to work alongside other ‘hackers’ and some notable tech companies. Participants will be able to learn new things and reinforce things they may already know about the technology.

The event is free for participants, but in order to participate, you must be a university student. The event is open to the public for free as well for those wishing to see the sponsors. The event was organized by sophomore, Erica Kok, and juniors, Malak Patel and Austin Coates as well as others from universities across the nation.

On Saturday, participants will be expected to program for 24 hours straight with some bathroom, food, and resting breaks. There will be team-building exercises throughout the day as well as a visit from therapy dogs.

On Sunday at 12:30 PM, participants will present their work with their groups. After judging, awards will be given out to the best works created.
