DeLand, FL - A Stetson University football player died on Monday after collapsing during practice.
School officials say Nicholas Adam Blakely, 19, was on the sidelines shortly after practice began on Monday evening when he complained he wasn't feeling well, then he suddenly collapsed. Blakely, known as Nick to his friends, was rushed to Florida Hospital DeLand where he was later pronounced dead.
Nick's parents have been notified of his death and Coach Roger Hughes has spoken with the rest of the team. The university is reaching out to Nick's faculty and teachers and Athletic Director Jeff Altier is informing members of the Athletic Department. Counselors have been with the football team and they're making themselves available to other students as well.
Blakey is from Lawrenceville, GA, and was a sophomore accounting major.
