DeLand, FL – This fall, new areas of study and leadership will be added to Stetson University’s Prince Entrepreneurship Program.
Stetson’s School of Business Administration has announced a new major, two minors, a new assistant director and an advisory board for the Entrepreneurship Program, which is one of the school’s fastest-growing undergraduate programs. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says that entrepreneurship is responsible for a large portion of the U.S. economy as small businesses pull 54% of sales, 55% of jobs and 66% of new net jobs.
“After joining Stetson last year, I began developing a plan to expand the program and advance innovation and creativity through entrepreneurial activities,” said Joseph C. Prince Entrepreneurship Program Director, Bill Jackson, Ph.D. “The ability to connect students from all across campus, to better connect to the community, and to be part of advancing economic development was a key driver in the formation of the new major as well as the overall curriculum overhaul.”
Now, students may major in Entrepreneurship and have their choice of two new complementary minors. The minors will be centered around creative problem solving and entrepreneurship techniques. Luis Paris, an international business instructor and School of Business Administration new venture creation, has been announced as the assistant director.
“Ultimately, the Entrepreneurship minor will equip students with the skills necessary to succeed in an ever-increasing entrepreneurial corporate environment,” said Paris. “Regardless of their major field of study, students will now be able to easily add the entrepreneurship minor.”
Paris received his M.B.A. from Stetson University and has started three businesses, organized 1 Million Cups Daytona Beach, serves as a UCF Business Incubator at Daytona Beach board member and is the founder of Innovate Daytona. Paris is also involved with the Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce, Volusia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the CEO Business Alliance.
“Luis’ immersion in the local business community combined with his passion and experience in new venture creation will be of real value to our program and our students,” said Jackson.
The new advisory board for the Entrepreneurship Program is made up of Stetson alumni, business owners and entrepreneurs from Prince-Bush Hotels, Synergy Billing, ASHLEYlauren Collections, Baja Longtail Capital, Boston Business Women, Columbia Restaurants, Moroccan Magic, Premium Blend, Flomotion apparel, Fisherman’s Investments, and Coastal Cloud.
The Board’s first meeting will occur on October 20 where they will begin to discuss how to better the program for students and the community. This month, Entrepreneurship Thursdays will begin at Stetson. Attendees can expect speakers, pitch competitions and advice for starting up a company.
