State Sentences Daytona Man To Life Following Carjacking Of An Elderly Woman

Daytona Beach, FL - On Friday, a 21-year old Daytona Beach man was sentenced to life in prison after receiving multiple felony convictions, some of which stemmed from the carjacking of a 93-year-old woman. David Leo Perkins was charged with one count of Carjacking, one count of Armed Burglary with a Firearm, and one count of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon. On the morning of July 20, 2017, Perkins and another man carjacked 93-year-old Maraquita Steinmetz while she was on her way to St. Peter’s Catholic Church in DeLand. Perkins had been out of prison for less than a month before he committed the carjacking. The original carjacking story can be read here.
