Volusia County, FL-Recommendations from a Special Magistrate were released to the Volusia County School District today regarding a pending impasse with the teachers union. This is the third recommendation in the district's impasse with its three unions. The recommendations include raising taxes, layoffs, reduction in services and a health insurance increase. The special magistrate recommended the steps in order to fund employee raises and benefits.  A 2.5% raise is recommended starting July 1, 2015. It includes a $1 per hour increase in the hourly rate for cafeteria employees and increases the existing employee's health insurance premium cost from $20 to $25 per month for 2015-16. The school board will make the final decision on the impasse if it proceeds to the next step in the process. The next school board meeting is Tuesday, June 14.
