Earlier Reporting:

DeLand Police responded to a report of a fatality at Skydive DeLand Tuesday morning.

At around 10:08 AM on Tuesday, police arrived at Skydive DeLand, 1600 Flightline Blvd., to investigate an injured skydiver. The victim's wife was contacted and she told police that she had seen her husband before he got on the plane to jump and that he seemed fine.

When police were talking to his wife, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office's Air One helicopter spotted the deceased body face-down in an open field in the southeast corner of the runway.

The man was reported as being an experienced skydiver. Police confirmed that he was wearing a parachute which was believed to be partially deployed. Earlier reports from the police said that the parachute did not seem to have malfunctioned, but in their latest report, police say the man jumped from the plane and did not open his parachute.

The name of the man has not yet been released as the police are currently working with the man's wife and the Italian Consulate to notify his family.
