Shooter Under Questioning After Man Killed In Orange City

UPDATE (06-16-18): The man who died is 43-year-old Jason A. Sargent, according to VCSO. The shooter is identified as 58-year-old Marc G. Lemay. Both lived at the address where the shooting took place.

Detectives believe Lemay shot Sargent in self-defense. No charges have been filed at this time, but the case will be reviewed by the office of Florida's 7th Circuit State Attorney, R.J. Larizza.

Orange City, FL - The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is questioning a man after shots are fired in a home near Orange City early this morning, killing another man.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. at 720 Highland Drive, just blocks away from where Enterprise Road meets U.S. 17 and just to the northwest of Florida Hospital Fish Memorial.

VCSO spokesman Andrew Gant says it looks like the shooting happened during some sort of domestic disturbance.

"Responding deputies and Orange City police officers found the shooting victim inside the home," Gant added. "A deputy performed CPR on the victim until Orange City Fire Rescue and EVAC paramedics arrived on scene."

Detectives tell us the shooter - who is the boyfriend of the victim's mother - remained at the scene.
