Northeast FL – Due to recent limited rainfall, the St. Johns River Water Management District declared a water shortage warning for the Northeast part of the state on Tuesday.
Rainfall in this district is about 10 inches less than the previous year and the lack of rain raises concerns about the potential effects of the shortage such as increased risk of fires. Residents in Baker, Clay, Nassau, Putnam, Flagler, Marion, and Lake Counties have been asked to conserve water and limit how they use it.
Watering lawns, such as golf courses, between 12:00 AM and 8:00 AM is recommended and watering between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM is already prohibited in the area. This measure is to make sure that water will get to the grass before evaporating.
The district issued the warning because it has concerns that high demand with low amounts of water could negatively impact the environment and its ecosystems.
