Several Credit Card Skimmers Found At 4 Palm Coast Gas Stations

Posted
Palm Coast, FL - Several skimming devices, used to steal credit card information at the gas pump, were found at four different Palm Coast gas station locations Tuesday and Wednesday. Flagler County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Agriculture are conducting routine gas pump checks throughout Palm Coast. The checks were in response to a complaint about an unauthorized purchase from a pump at the Kangaroo Express at 1201 Palm Harbor Parkway in Palm Coast. Joseph Scobbo Jr., a consumer protection specialist with the Florida Department of Agriculture found that the security tape on all the pumps at that station had been compromised, and two Bluetooth skimming devices were discovered. There were also skimmers found at the 7-11 on 220 Palm Coast Parkway, the BP station at 1755 Palm Harbor Parkway, and the Shell station at 320 Palm Coast Parkway NE, according to a news release put out by the Sheriff's Office Friday. "If you have utilized any of these four gas stations in Palm Coast, or any gas station, it is imperative that you check your bank card or credit card statement to make sure you do not have fraudulent charges on your account," says Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly. "If you notice anything suspicious, you should contact your bank or credit card company immediately." The Flagler Sheriff's Office has some helpful tips below to make sure you and your credit cards do not fall victim to these credit card skimmers:
  • Check the pump first to make sure that it is not loose or cracked. If it looks like a device has been added to the card reader, do not use that pump.
  • Choose pumps that are closest to the store.
  • Pay with cash when you can, but use credit cards rather than debit cards since credit cards have better fraud protection and money is not deducted immediately from an account.
