Body Ashore In Ormond-by-the-Sea Identified As Missing Canadian

red flag beach Daytona Beach, FL-Update:- A body washed ashore in Ormond-by-the-Sea on Tuesday morning has been identified as a missing Canadian man. Volusia County Beach Safety Captain Andrew Ethridge said the man is 24-year-old Russell Cates from Ontario, Canada.  Cates was reported missing at 330 PM on Monday. A 3-hour search was conducted using jet skis and Air One and started again Tuesday morning. A fisherman saw the body in the water about 1045 AM.  The body was identified as Cates just after noon.  The investigation remains open as the Medical Examiner tries to determine the cause of death. Earlier reporting: A body of a man has washed ashore on the beach in Ormond-by-the-Sea.  A passer-by saw the body Tuesday morning.  County Beach Safety responded to the scene. Monday afternoon,  a 24-year-old Canadian presumed missing in the ocean in Daytona Beach. He was last seen around 330 PM in the Ocean Walk area. County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue Captain Tammy Marris says no one saw him go under, but he's presumed to be missing in the ocean. Beach Safety launched jet skis and called Air One to conduct about a three-hour search. Marris says nothing was found. Marris says the missing man had a history of seizures. Friends who were with him in the ocean didn't see him and thought he had come onshore. They reported him missing when they couldn't locate him on the beach. The red flag was flown on the beach Monday due to strong rip current conditions. That area is near the Oakridge approach.
