DeLand, FL-The Volusia School Board Tuesday night began tackling the challenge of makeup days for both Hurricane Matthew and time lost to Hermine in September. Friday's makeup day is for the September weather event. Public schools here were closed a total of 4 days for Matthew. Board members last night considered possibly making February 20, the Presidents Day holiday, a school day. The Board is also considering adding an instructional day to the end of the school year and changing five days set for early release to full instruction days. The five early release days that could be impacted are November 9, 16 and 30 and December 7 and 14. The makeup plan must get the ok from the Florida Department of Education. If oked, it would come back before the Board October 25.   2016 Southern Stone Communications Copyright
