Daytona Beach, FL- The Salvation Army temporary shelter on Ballough Street will close it's doors today. After a one week extension, 86 people that have been there will be headed to area motels. That's the decision made at a Daytona Beach City Commission special meeting last week.

City Manager Jim Chisholm said he will work up estimates of the weekly cost to the city to keep homeless people in motels long-term. Commissioners agreed to pay for the motel rooms - at least through Wednesday when they will have a regularly scheduled meeting.

The city would have to spend somewhere between $6,000 and $16,000 on a weekly motel bill, depending on how many of the 86 people take them up on the offer.
