Road Work & Lane Closures On New Smyrna Beach North Causeway Begin This Week

Posted

New Smyrna Beach, FL - New Smyrna Beach Causeway drivers be aware as road work to replace the bridge decks on the western end of the North Causeway begins July 17. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will be working to replace the decks on the low bridges over the Berrys and Conners canals. The contractor, M&J Construction Company, will remove the existing bridge deck using a high-pressure water demolition technique. The concrete slabs and deck joints will be replaced, and workers will repair the reinforcing steel. The work for this project will take place mainly during the day behind the barrier wall, but occasional nighttime lane closures will be needed. During the project, traffic will be shifted on the bridges in phases, but at least one lane of traffic will be open at all times. Walkways will only be open on one side of the bridge. Kayakers and small watercraft can travel under the bridge, but they are advised to use caution. Electronic message boards and signs will be used to alert drivers of any lane closures or shifts, and updates can be found at www.cflroads.com. You can also contact Carolyn Fitzwilliam, Public Information Coordinator, at 386-740-3566 or carolyn.fitzwilliam@dot.state. The work is expected to be completed in the summer of 2018. The FDOT is reminding everyone to use caution, slow down, and stay alert when traveling through the construction. Copyright Southern Stone Communications 2017.
