Orange City, FL - River Springs Middle School students in Orange City had to be kept inside their classrooms for about two hours Thursday morning after a mother bear and her three cubs were looking for food near the campus. The Volusia County Sheriff's Office (VCSO) says that the bears were found near the middle school's portable classrooms at around 8:05 AM Thursday. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) was called to the school, located at 900 W. Ohio Ave., and teachers were told to keep the students indoors. The bears did not cause any harm to anyone on campus, and they were not harmed themselves. The mother bear and her cubs moved on and left the area shortly after 10 AM, according to VCSO.
